The Botanical Society is a non-profit and volunteer group that maintains the gardens at Zoo Montana. There currently is no one on staff at the zoo that works or maintains the gardens. As a result, volunteer times can be flexible but it is anticipated that we work the following time frames...

As a gardener you get the itch every Spring to start growing. That's how the volunteers work at the zoo. When the weather starts to break in March the work begins. We will have regular updates on this page of what jobs need to be tackled. Usually in November with the first snow we begin the clean-up and wind down for the season.

The volunteers work together every Monday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Flexibility is the key here. We all have hectic life schedules and we don't expect you to be at the zoo every Monday. A volunteer has the freedom to work any day as long as it conforms to Zoo hours of operation.

*Average number of weeks volunteering 36.

*There are 10-15 volunteers working regularly.

*One volunteer working only on Mondays puts in an average of 142 volunteer hours, most volunteers surpass that number !

*By recording your work hours at the zoo office after each shift, the zoo can apply for grants based on volunteer hours.
